STEPS TO BECOMING A VOLUNTEER

• Step 1
  Contact Victoria Peterson, volunteer services manager, at (602) 395-9474 ext. 139 or toll free 800-324-9474, to discuss volunteer positions and to RSVP for the New Volunteer Orientation. For volunteer opportunities in Southern Arizona, contact Ashley Post at (520) 731-9474.
  
  
• Step 2
  Attend a one-hour New Volunteer Orientation to become familiar with the Foundation’s volunteer program, philosophy, needs, policies, procedures and expectations.
  
  
• Step 3
  Once a volunteer has decided that the Foundation’s program matches their needs and desires to volunteer, a personal interview is scheduled with the volunteer manager. At this interview, it is determined whether there will be an appropriate placement for the volunteer. If such a placement is satisfactorily determined by both parties, a $25 fee is collected. A photograph will be taken of the volunteer for the volunteer identification badge.
  
  
• Step 4
  The criminal background check is formally requested. Upon receipt of an acceptable report, the volunteer is cleared to begin volunteer duties and given their volunteer identification badge and handbook.
  
  
• Step 5
  Additional trainings (provided by the Foundation) will be required for some volunteer positions.
  
  

NEW VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION

What happens at the orientation?

People who have expressed an interest in the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona gather together with staff to view a video of the Make-A-Wish Foundation beginnings. We discuss the history, procedures, policies and volunteer opportunities available. The orientation is interactive in nature and questions are gladly received. We serve light refreshments, and basically, enjoy getting to know each other! Volunteer applications are provided for those interested in becoming Make-A-Wish volunteers.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona generally holds a New Volunteer Orientation for potential volunteers in Central Arizona on the second Thursday of every month from 6 to 7 p.m. These orientations are held at:

Walk-ins cannot always be accommodated due to space constraints, so please RSVP your attendance for the Phoenix orientation with Victoria Peterson, volunteer services manager, at (602) 395-9474 ext. 139.
